Alright guys, its official... I'm no longer in NUS! Goodbye CORS, and tutorial bidding which landed me with NO tutorial slot, and lonely lunches, and super crowded bus 95... I guess shuyi can perfectly understand how glad i am
fisher I think you need to chill out, let's meet up and help you to destress... if you really can't decide on things (like whether to go out or not...), just follow your intuition, if 'yes' appears in your head first, just do it! you'll get by uni lar, and the reason why you're having such a packed schedule is because you're an engin student, and engin students are usually better thinkers and doers, so you'll usually have a better chance in getting a job next time... which justifies the time spent on this degree, so you gotta work hard for that!

Ay, I totally forgot about this blog the past week... Busy with all sorts of stuff, including celebrating!
Haha, I'm like the ultimate loner in school lor, go everywhere myself one... I dunno anyone doing math sia... But if this is consolation, there's many others i've identified who are singletons too!
Anyway, after 1 week of being hyped up about lectures and stuff, I'm finally back to my old self - sleeping in lecture. Yes that's me after all, I just can't change that...
The lectures are surprisingly not as bad as I thought, albeit the foreign accents and cute expressions. The lecturer, whose class I slept in, was the most normal speaking and professional sounding person. Strange? Or maybe strange sounding lecturers are bad bed-time story tellers...
Jwei: Sry didn't see your request for my timetable, I have 1 day left (hopefully...), Wednesday 10am Econs lecture with shuyi and 4pm Physics lecture. SLACK SLACK SLACK TMR!!

I just realised that I'll be having 3 celebrations for 3 different reasons these 3 days.
1. The most impt, fun, exciting, thrilling, death-defying (well sort of...), and happy celebration happened last night, after my last day at work. Went to my boss' house to have dinner and play mahjong, and force our new interim angmoh big boss to eat durian. Well, he survived, and so did we.
2. Sec class reunion to have a final big gathering before our dear friend leaves for a faraway land, looking forward to that!
3. And of course last (and sadly it is the least), we have our nation's bday! And many shows to watch that night...
Yay to celebrations! Since i'm in such a festive mood, I have no plans to start preparations related to uni and other stuff right now, just wan to nua and nua and nua and......
weiguo: I wanted GEM2901, but was too expensive for me... too bad...
junwei: I have doubts over your envelope explanation, ever since I read it yesterday, but I can't be bothered to post anything else already, just want to enjoy the festive mood (aka the procrastinate everything that's impt mood)
shuyi: If you have the answer I hope you post it out soon, I need some enlightenment.
all others: Where are our fellow explorers?! Fisher get your ass in here!

I shall attempt to redeem my explanation with a very primitive practical reasoning.
Given the situation, and I opened the first envelope and find $1000 inside. And this repeats for a large number of times (I wish!!), the average yield will be $1250 => expectation 1.25M, which is better than not changing the swapping the envelope.
However given that this situation only happens once, there's only a 50% chance that you'll get the 'richer' one, and the probabilty doesn't change regardless of whether you open the envelope or not. Thus in this case, it boils down to luck.
But it still doesn't change the fact that the theoretical yield is 1.25M. There's no contradiction in example 2, 'cause expected yield doesn't => there's a higher probability of getting the 'richer' envelope. Expected yield => if that same situation happens a zillion times, you'll be richer if you swap.
Of course, the whole scenario is different if you are to repeat the same situation a million times, and each time you open up, the amount of money inside is different. Then of course you'll have to pray for gd fortune!
alright, its second last day at work... a very mild bitter sweet feeling actually... clearing most of my work already, and hoping no one piles more work on me these 2 days... I'm trying to clear all the work that i'm handed and make it a clean conclusion, no more pushing of workload etc, and then I'll be able to give out chocolate, lobo and talk cock tmr
ok as for jwei's question, I think there's nothing much to dispute... one just needs to know the pretty stark difference between expected yield, and the probability of choosing the 2M envelope (does 3M make envelope??). yes the probability of choosing the 2M envelope is 50%, but after choosing an envelope and finding there's $M inside, nothing really changes. 50% chance that the other envelope has $0.5M, 50% chance that it has $2M. There's still an equal chance that the other envelope is the 'richer' one. Expected yield then comes into play by factoring in the $$$. Imagine if the question says one envelope has $50 dollar more than the other, the probability of getting the 'richer' one is still 50%, but the expected yield is now just $M. So for this question where one envelope has $2M, expected yield is calculated to be $1.25M => 50% chance of gaining $M, 50% chance of losing $0.5M. Take for example, if we play a game, I flip an unbiased coin, if heads I give you $M, if tails you give me $0.5M, is it advantageous for you to play the game? Thus its always right to change the envelope, no contradiction here
P.S. Pardon my poor and unenlightening explanation, not very gd at expressing myself.

Ok, I'm here at 7.58am trying to read the blog and rush out an entry before work officially starts... (actually even if does, I'll continue bloggin anyway)
Yes my planned modules are linear algebra I, Calculus I, Mathematical Thinking, Reporting stats in media, and principle of econs... hopefully i'll get the reporting stats one, it seems like the price will shoot beyond my capital...
Btw i had absolutely no idea fur is jwei, but I thought its retarded to think its zm because penguin 'has fur'?!?!? LOLOLOL.... And for jwei's second question, I thought it made sense and I concluded that even before I read your explanation, which means that's my instinctive answer... But definitely you wouldn't be publishing the answer and asking if its correct, that just defeats the purpose of a quiz, so i'm just eagerly waiting for some enlightenment...
MAF! Yeah let's go and gather before some ppl leave for a far away land! Although i'm not very confident about the attendance... Perhaps if we have a 3 generation under one roof (or rather 3 generation at one class bench) gathering, maybe we'll have enough ppl to get the party started! 03S33?? 06S6H?? Come come join in the fun!!

Despite being my last week here, work is starting to pile up today... So I guess its back to work...
Still, i'm hoping ppl will come back to post entries, will read them once i'm free

Hi all fellow 'explorers'!
First of all, thanks to weiguo and minghan for keeping the entries coming, nice picture you have there minghan!
As shuyi has said, bored we are so finding stuff to do. I probably have the second best job in the world. Just came back from crystal jade lunch fully paid for by the company, gd environment, super nice bosses and colleagues... Friday's my last day, so even though there's still a few tiny bits of work waiting for me to be done, I'm super bored and sian diao, thus explaining this post...
Hopefully everyone of you 05S33 members can come back here and make just 1 post, about anything and relieve us of our boredom!!
zzZZzzzzZZZzzzzzz... its time to doze off on the table again... lecture-style...
Cheers,
Kenny
P.S. Pardon the email style entry, too used to doing it in office
